Introduction
Close Abyss fissures, fight the emerging monsters and recognise the rewards from Troves and Depths.
What was Rise of the Abyssal?
What makes an Abyss different
The first enemies shape the second fight
You first defeat monsters weakened near the fissures, then fight the emerging Abyssals. Their rarity and inherited modifiers depend on those initial kills. Clearing a rare monster can therefore affect what the pit releases.
Three underground factions
The Lightless, Blackblooded and Legion of the Pit are the three groups, with an area generally containing one. Troves and Depths are possible outcomes, rather than guaranteed rewards from every pit.
Bones are targeted crafting materials
Preserved Jawbone applies to rare weapons or quivers; applies to rare armour; Preserved Collarbone applies to rare jewellery. The bone’s target matters. Check its item-level restrictions instead of treating all bone drops as interchangeable.
What changed around the league
Close an Abyss
- 01
Clear the fissures
Monsters near an Abyss are weakened by it. Killing them closes the branching fissures towards the central pit.
- 02
Defeat the emerging wave
Once the fissures close, the pit releases Abyssal monsters. Clear this wave to close the pit.
- 03
Inspect the outcome
A closed pit can produce an Abyssal Trove containing Preserved Bone. The area’s final Abyss can instead lead into Abyssal Depths.
Understand the danger
Stolen modifiers
The spawned Abyssals inherit modifiers from the monsters you killed. Rare enemies can upgrade these into Abyssal modifiers.
Desecrated crafting
Bone rewards can be used in Desecration. Inspect which item types and item levels a particular bone supports.
The wider update
The Third Edict added Act Four, Interludes in place of repeating the campaign, revised supports and higher-tier crafting currency.
