What was Fate of the Vaal?
Why room placement matters
A room has a job
Room families offer different encounters and rewards. The Armoury family supplies equipment, while Commanders strengthen rare monsters and can award medallions. WDguide advice: decide what you want from a Temple before spending placements.
Upgrades change the fight as well as the loot
Guardhouse, Barracks and Hall of War are successive Garrison tiers. Their recorded monster-pack bonuses increase from 8% to 12% to 16%; later tiers also strengthen normal monsters. An upgrade is not only a larger reward label.
Neighbours form a plan
A Commander or Armoury can upgrade a Garrison. Conversely, Commander upgrades depend on multiple Garrison neighbours. WDguide advice: think in connected groups of rooms rather than filling every space with an unrelated reward.
More than an ordinary crafting bench
Transcendent limbs
The Transcension Device replaces arms or legs with mechanical upgrades carrying modifiers. Those upgrades are lost on death. Their temporary nature distinguishes them from a permanent passive allocation.
Vaal transformations
Juatalotli’s Triumph changes modifiers on a Corrupted Vaal Unique. The Corrupted Precursor Machine alters a Tablet. Both are specialised transformations: identify the required item before treating a room as useful for your character.
Plan a Temple run
- 01
Read the room
Check its reward and upgrade conditions before placing it. A high-tier room is useful only if your route reaches it.
- 02
Connect a path
WDguide advice: preserve a usable route while adding rooms. Compare the next placement with your intended destination.
- 03
Use adjacency deliberately
For example, Guardhouse can develop into Barracks and Hall of War. Commander and Armoury rooms are among its upgrade neighbours.
- 04
Review before entering
Room tiers increase encounter pressure as well as rewards. Check the layout and your defensive setup before running the Temple.
Recognise the crafting risks
Corruption Altar
It can add a second enchantment to an already Corrupted item, with a 50% chance of destroying that item.
Recovering socketables
Kishara’s Acquisition can recover socketed augments by sacrificing the equipment. is associated with this crafting route.
Changing a Soul Core
changes a Soul Core unpredictably and can destroy it. Inspect the item before committing.
The Temple’s destinations
Royal Architect
Defeating the Architect opens further special crafting rewards and the route towards Atziri.
Atziri
The league’s pinnacle encounter features Atziri at the height of the Vaal empire.
Other update additions
The Last of the Druids also introduced the Druid, its Oracle and Shaman Ascendancies, and animal-form gameplay using Talismans.
What the 0.4 patch changed around your build
Ascendancy-granted skills
Skills granted by Ascendancy allocations become active when the relevant passive is allocated. Treat the allocated source as part of the setup rather than assuming a separate purchased gem supplies it.
Abyss became core content
Abyss encounters were added to campaign areas from Act 2 and endgame. Earlier league access and crafting instructions need their version checked; Preserved Vertebrae stopped dropping and the Well of Souls quest changed.
Keep the Temple plan versioned
WDguide advice: record the version alongside a valuable crafting target. An old room recommendation can describe a historical reward or access route even when the underlying item still exists.

Common mistakes to avoid
Do not strand the reward room
WDguide advice: preserve a connected route to the room you want before spending the next placement.
An upgraded room is also a harder fight
Room tiers alter encounters as well as rewards. Check the room description and neighbouring upgrades before entering.
Read the item cost first
Special Temple devices have different inputs and risks. Keep valuable equipment out until you understand that device’s stated outcome.
Read these room icons together
Garrison: the room to develop

Guardhouse, Barracks and Hall of War form a Garrison upgrade family. Their monster-pack bonuses rise with room tier, so upgrading changes the encounter as well as its rewards.
Commander: a useful neighbour

Commander is one of the listed neighbours that can upgrade a Garrison. Commander rooms have their own upgrade conditions. WDguide advice: check both rooms before committing a placement; one useful adjacency does not satisfy every upgrade.
Armoury: another upgrade neighbour

Armoury is also listed as an upgrade neighbour for Garrison. WDguide example: if your planned path already reaches the Garrison, compare a compatible neighbouring room with an unrelated reward room. Preserve access before chasing a tier increase.
Choose the device, then the item
Your next step
A powered room is a separate requirement
A Smithy also needs power
The Bronzeworks and Chamber of Iron descriptions each require a Generator. Bronzeworks offers equipment-quality improvement; Chamber of Iron can add an augment socket. A room’s presence alone does not fulfil its power requirement.
Choose the operation you need
WDguide example: a room that improves quality solves a different problem from one that adds a socket. Read its exact workbench text, then inspect the item. Do not spend placements based only on the room artwork.
Leave with a working character
WDguide advice: before sacrificing or corrupting equipment at a special device, confirm that you have a usable replacement. Save the next build stage separately so an ambitious crafting plan does not hide the setup you can currently play.
